In 1965 a small group from Bethany Evangelical Free Church met to plant a new church on the west side of Madison. In 1967 they bought a small building on Blackhawk Avenue. Outgrowing their original building they moved to Whitney Way in Madison in 1986. Due to a continued increase in the number of members the building was greatly increased in size in 1997. In 2007 they built a larger building on Brader Way in Middleton with room for further expansion. Their congregation continued to grow and in 2010 they started a satellite branch by holding services at the Majestic Theatre in downtown Madison. They continued this multi-site approach in 2013 by holding services at Savanna Oaks Middle School in Fitchburg. They now have their own large church to serve the Fitchburg area community.
Blackhawk Church’s mission is to build a loving community that follows Christ in order to reach a community that is lost without Him. Being a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Christ, they are evangelistic and use the Bible as the focal point of their message. They also have an extensive outreach program in the community partnering with many charitable organizations.
